The iBRoad project has made available an open-source programme for the techno-economic assessment of renovation measures and alternative renovation pathways of a building. The programme, written in the programming language Python, provides a simplified standardised energy demand model to assess useful, final and primary energy demand of residential houses.

At today's renovation rate of around 1% of buildings per year, a timely transition of the EU building sector towards climate-neutral levels by 2050 cannot be ensured. To accelerate energy efficiency investments in this area, the European Commission has intensified its efforts in recent years, with specific calls to strengthen the existing financial framework, increase funding levels, diversify types of financial models and explore new supporting mechanisms.

The Government has launched a consultation on the introduction of a “Future Homes Standard” for England, to be operable from 2025. There are to be proposed interim measures applicable from 2020. The aim is to ensure that new build homes in England will be future-proofed, with low carbon heating and world-leading levels of energy efficiency.

RenoHUb intends to enable households to take the first step towards becoming prosumers, and map and remove all the non-financial barriers which cause setbacks in the process.

In order to achieve the European Commission’s long-term energy vision for 2050, yearly energy investments in the EU need to almost double  and of these, energy efficiency improvements in residential buildings represent more than half. Deep retrofits will thus be critical, but, as they can be expensive, new and innovative ways of financing are vital.

This new residential complex in Tirol, completed in 2018, is a passive house construction with 20 condominiums, 19 underground parking spaces and 8 carport spaces. The structure is U-shaped and is divided, due to the slope, in a basement with underground parking, a ground floor and 4 other above-ground floors.   The outstandingly low levels of energy demand and consequential CO2 emissions have made it achieve the Bronze status of the Austrian klimaaktiv criteria.
