Climate change is already underway, and some dangerous consequences include warmer average temperatures and severe and frequent heat waves.
The recent heat waves, which set new temperature records in Europe, has shown that Western, Central and Nordic cities are more vulnerable to heat stress than those already facing heat regularly in the Southern Europe.

Researchers in Europe are developing a new kind of prefabricated energy efficient building façades, equipped with special insulation and solar panels.
These solutions are built far from the construction site, in an industrial environment, and can therefore be installed quickly and painlessly for homeowners or tenants

This is the first block of housing certified in Spain built in 2017 under the Passivhaus standard, and therefore has a demand for heating below 15kWh / m2a, and a heating load of 10W / m2.
This implies that a floor of 75m2 will have a heating load of only 750W, so with a hair dryer there would be enough to heat two houses.
To achieve this the following principles have been applied:

New design tool and approaches, and innovative construction methods are enabling architects and engineers to conceive and develop increasingly complex and daring building envelopes. This process is rapidly reshaping our built environment, and transforming the concept of building envelope itself, which is no longer a passive and static element that only separates the indoor environment from the outdoor world. In this fast changing context, one of the major issues is the evaluation of the performances of such complex façade systems.

The building façade not only provides the aesthetic signature of a building, but also important functions, such as daylight provision, glare protection, solar gain management and visual contact with the outside, which make the building usable and energy efficient. These functions often oppose each other, so the selection and design of façade systems and their control for a certain building application should depend on those functions that the designer wants to promote to the detriment of the other functions.
