The International Council consists of representatives from the global buildingSMART chapters who play a key role in the governance and leadership of buildingSMART International.   The council elects the buildingSMART International Board of Directors at an annual meeting.  The International Council also participates in approving annual reports and other business, such as establishing annual priorities for the buildingSMART organization.

Mijnwater B.V. is developing a circular energy system for residential complexes of social housing corporation Weller B.V. Due to Mijnwaters’ heating and cooling network, the connected homes are not only heated without natural gas but will also be comfortably cooled with green energy. The new heat pump installations in Brunssum provide district heating and cooling supply for three residential areas, Tarcisius, Oude Egge and Pastor Savelbergstraat, with a total of 200 houses.

In its 2018 landmark report, Global Warming of 1.5°C, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned of a catastrophic climate breakdown if global average temperatures rose by 2°C. Negative consequences for our communities and planet would be long-lasting and, in some cases, irreversible. Recent events in countries like Australia have shown us a glimpse of the future and that the worst, if we do not act now, is yet to come.

Traditionally, engineers, architects and site operators interact and track their information exchange through paper or digitalized drawings and e-mails. With the introduction of Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques and tools, operators are using new solutions and methods to keep track and exploit these data.
