Emblematically, this is one of the first acts of the new Commission and this stresses the importance of climate action for the new European government.

The Campus Humanitas University is a new international university of medicine, located near the renowned Humanitas Research Hospital Hospital in Rozzano, near Milan.   The project involves the creation of a new university infrastructure serving about 1000 students. The campus, surrounded by a large park, takes full advantage of its location through a masterplan based on pedestrian paths, offering a harmonious relationship with the surrounding green, with no natural continuity solutions.

Belgrade’s chief explained most of the structures were made in the 1950s and 1960s and that the goal used to be to build as many homes as possible, at the expense of energy efficiency. Today, he said, the bill is due and much more energy is used for the heating of homes than is necessary.

The Energy Efficiency Directive (Directive 2012/27/EU, EED), adopted in 2012, in its Article 4, requires EU Member States (MS) to establish a long-term strategy for mobilising investment in the renovation of the national stock of residential and commercial buildings, both public and private.

The commercial (i.e. non-residential) buildings, public buildings and urban areas are the fastest growing energy consuming sectors and a key area where the CO2 reduction could be achieved in a cost-effective manner. This is mainly due to the growth of the service sector and urbanisation and their associated demand for heating, cooling ventilation (HVAC), ICT services, lighting, mobility, etc..
