  On 13 September 2016, the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) announced that 1,938 project proposals from 40 countries were received for the third cut-off of the SME Instrument Phase 1 this year.

The CIP eco-innovation initiative was a pioneer grant programme of the European Commission, supporting private-sector beneficiaries in the commercialisation of their late-stage innovation projects that promised significant environmental benefits combined with economic viability. The aim was to bridge the gap between successful demonstration of innovative technologies and their effective broad market uptake, with an emphasis on targeting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) from the EU27 and other countries participating in the programme.

On 30 June 2016, the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) announced that 1,189 project proposals from 35 countries have been received for the second Phase 2 cut-off in 2016 on 15 June.   ICT was the most popular topic, with 259 proposals submitted -22% of the total of applications-, followed by low carbon & efficient energy systems (152 proposals), transport & smart mobility (137) and Nanotechnologies (122).

On 19 May 2015, the European Commission launched the 2016 Call for proposals for LIFE Grants under both Environment and Climate Action sub-programmes. The Commission invites legal persons (entities) registered in the European Union (EU) to present their proposals.       Environment   The call will cover action grants for Traditional, Preparatory, Integrated, and Technical Assistance projects.

New report by Ecofys shows that total public funding for energy efficiency in the EU grew by nearly 20% during the first two years (2013 and 2014) of the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive, from about €6 billion in 2012 to about €7.1 billion in 2014. This trend is encouraging, but structural reforms are needed to close the EU’s investment gap.
