"Die energetische Gebäudesanierung gehört zu den zentralen Stellschrauben der Energiewende. Der Gebäudebereich allein ist in Deutschland verantwortlich für rund 35 Prozent des Energieverbrauchs und für 30 Prozent der energiebedingten CO2-Emissionen. Ein besonderer Fokus der energetischen Sanierung liegt dabei auf privaten Wohnhäusern, die knapp zwei Drittel des Gebäudebestandes ausmachen. External insulation of new buildings as well of existing buildings can substantially improve the thermal performances of buildings. Some recent fires, in particular the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London, has drawn the attention to potential fire risks of such facades. Q-Bot project (Fast and economic insulation of buildings using robotic systems) is developing an innovative underfloor insulation system that has the potential to improve the energy foot print of millions of Europe's least energy efficient buildings by as much as 25% while reducing installation costs by 50 to 75%. The small robotic device is unique and superior to other underfloor insulation in that it can access uneven and tight spaces and underfloor voids in order to install insulation.

RIBuild-to je znanstveno-istraživački projekt "Horizont 2020", koji se razvija smjernice o tome kako instalirati unutarnju toplinsku izolaciju povijesnih građevina uz zadržavanje njihovih arhitektonske i kulturne baštine.
Cilj projekta je smanjenje potrošnje energije u povijesnim zgradama, u susret klime EU 2020 i ciljeva u oblasti energetike.

The EU-funded ADAPTIWALL project (Multi-functional light-weight WALL panel based on ADAPTive Insulation and nanomaterials for energy efficient buildings) focuses on developing a multifunctional and climate adaptive lightweight prefab panel suitable for cost-efficient, rapid and energy efficient retrofitting of facades and eventually also suitable for roofing, inner walls or entirely new buildings.
