Am 6. November 2013 hat das Sekretariat der United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) ein von der KfW mitfinanziertes Programm zur Förderung von nachhaltigem Wohnungsbau in Mexiko (EcoCasa) ausgezeichnet. Das Fördervolumen des EcoCasa-Programms beläuft sich auf rund 230 Mio. USD; der KfW-Anteil beträgt mehr als 128 Mio. USD (Inter American Development Bank 102 Mio. USD, davon 51,5 Mio. USD aus dem Clean Technology Fund).

This scheme is now closed. The eighth framework programme funding research, technological development, and innovation is Horizon 2020.
The complete name of FP7 is 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. The programme has a total budget of over € 50 billion for the period 2007-2013. This represents a substantial increase compared with the previous Framework Programme FP6, a reflection of the high priority of research in Europe.

‘In 2011, for the first time, European investments in renewable energies were higher than for conventional fuels. Europe already produces over 3.8 GW from wind power alone!’ said Oettinger, adding that there would be ‘no sustainable economic growth without sustainable energy’. The Commissioner promised ‘more jobs in renewable energy, on top of the million we have already created’.

One might ask why certify at all? The reasons vary from stronger branding with an environmental profile and ensuring a good indoor environment, to energy efficiency and “guaranteed” building quality leading to more tenants and higher occupancy rates which ultimately can give increased financial value of a building. All this leads to an important message which is to understand the certification systems and to be able to compare them on a good level.
