This year marks the 15thEuropean Sustainable Energy Week EUSEW.  Under the circumstances with Covid-19 the event was adapted to provide a dynamic, interactive and carefully organised online format. This effort has proved successful with more than 6300 registered participants and 4600 active online participants and some sessions of the policy conference gathering over 1500 registrations from people around the world.

Abstract: In the building industry, the quality control practices during the design stage, implementation, introduction and use varies. Also, the owner´s project requirements may vary. The instrumentation, measurements and the control options are different. The final product of the building process is the indoor environment. When evaluating the need of renovation of existing buildings and to control the performance of a new building, certain procedures are needed.

Europe’s buildings have the potential to play a key role in our future energy systems. Making them more efficient reduces the need for expensive power plant capacity, defers the costly upgrading of network infrastructure, and enables this infrastructure to be used with more flexibility. The fact that energy efficiency is not adequately compensated for these benefits (SENSEI, 2020) acts as a barrier to its deployment. It deprives it of valuable funding and means that we all pay more to ensure the adequacy, reliability and security of our energy systems.

Abstract: Often there is a significant difference between the actually measured and theoretically calculated energy use. The deviation between the two can be a result of errors in design, construction or commissioning, due to the technical performance of building components and installations that don’t meet the design requirements. But equally, incorrect assumptions in the calculation can largely affect the results, for example the user influence that is simulated in a different way.

Although local power generation by renewable sources is increasing, it has not yet had a real impact on radical decarbonisation of the energy sector, Changes need to be made by unlocking the potential of the prosumer. This project proposes a community-based Virtual Power Plant (cVPP), a novel model that can help organise & significantly boost renewable energy production & distribution at a local level.   Taking the VPP a step further
