What’s new in District Heating Systems (DHs)? DHs have traditionally been designed to be operated with central energy production facilities and a variety of distributed consumption locations (dwellings, tertiary buildings, etc). In some cases, heat is partially obtained from local industrial waste heat streams, leading to almost de-carbonized heating energy supplies.

French experts involved in the French building regulation and national EPBD implementation contribute also to the EPB standards development at European level. Therefore, the French building regulation and transposition of the EPBD and the EPB standards are in line regarding the principles and the general structure. But sometimes the French regulation differ in the details, mostly due to different timelines and already existing national methods.

Europeans spend approximately 90 % of their time in buildings. Living indoors requires energy to maintain the right temperature, to cook and to use electrical appliances. In fact, energy is expected to guarantee a healthy and comfortable environment. Of all the sectors in Europe, the building sector consumes the most energy, and thus emits the most CO2. As a result, policymakers have made buildings a priority in the EU energy policy agenda.
