The University of Environment, after winning the Energy & Hot Climates Award of the International platform, qualified in this category for the final... and won!   A minimal carbon footprint was the main objective behind the construction of this building. To achieve this, stakeholders drew inspiration from traditional constructions and uses of buildings in the region, while providing innovative solutions.

We are pleased to announce that the Renewables in Cities 2019 Global Status Report is now available!   Accounting for 55% of the world’s population, 75% of global CO2 emissions and 2/3rds of global energy demand, cities have a crucial role to play in accelerating the sustainable energy transition. While some national governments are working toward a sustainable energy system, city-level initiatives are fundamental as well, especially for transitioning local end-use sectors such as heating, cooling and transport.

Today’s energy market is rapidly transforming with the diffusion of new decentralized energy actors. In this scenario, buildings play a relevant role for the energy transition that European countries are facing. They are expected to shift from passive energy consumers to flexible energy prosumers able to produce and store energy, modify their thermal and electric demands and share data with other buildings connected in smart energy communities. We are already in this transition phase with several pilot projects ongoing.
