The Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) has been established by the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic as a professional state subsidy organisation which makes an important contribution in the achievement of governmental energy policy objectives, principally by promoting energy efficiency, new energy technologies and renewables.
Among the many tasks that SIEA performs is the provision of professional competence for energy auditors, boiler inspectors and air-conditioning system inspectors.

By early June 2015, one year after the transposition deadline of the Energy Efficiency Directive, only 18 Member States have transposed the provisions on energy audits as set out in Article 8 of the European legislation. On Monday June 8 2015 the European Commission and the Baltic Sea region countries (Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland and Sweden) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) modernising and strengthening the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP). At the same time, 12 European countries signed a declaration for regional co-operation on security of electricity supply within the European internal market, followed by the signature of a political declaration of the Pentalateral Energy Forum.

The country's policy and legal framework on energy efficiency consists of: the Strategy for Development of the Energy Sector 2009-2030;the Strategy for Improvement of Energy Efficiency 2010-2020;the First National Energy Efficiency Action Plan 2010-2012;the Energy Law (enacted in 2011); and numerous by-laws.
