The Horizon 2020 funded Save at Work project aims to help public buildings reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions. A minimum of 9000 employees in at least 180 public office buildings (administrative buildings - municipal/regional or federal state operated) from nine countries will compete in a year-long energy saving contest to achieve the highest energy savings possible compared to the previous year.

The Horizon 2020 funded Project SENSIBLE (Storage Enabled Sustainable Energy for Buildings and Communities) aims to develop, demonstrate and evaluate a storage-enabled sustainable energy supply for buildings and communities. The project is working towards achieving the 2030 target set by the European Union, namely to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% and create a sustainable energy supply.

The FP7 funded TRIBUTE (Take the energy bill back to the promised building performance) is a large-scale integrating project aimed at minimizing the gap between computed and measured energy performances through the improvement of the predictive capability of a state-of-the-art commercial Building Energy Performance Simulation (BEPS). For existing buildings, measurement and verification techniques will be developed and deployed to connect the BEPS model in real time to the pivotal wireless sensing and control systems of a monitored building.

The Horizon 2020 funded DREEAM project (Demonstrating an integrated Renovation approach for Energy Efficiency At the Multi-building scale) aims to show that renovating at a larger scale opens the opportunity for a better integration of renewable energy and is generally more cost effective. The project demonstrates a multi-building and single owner renovation approach that can achieve a 75% reduction of total energy demand.

Demand response (DR) offers the path for consumers to change their normal energy consumption patterns in response to significant variations in energy pricing over time. An effective and wide scale implementation of DR may lead to lower energy demand during peak hours and minimize energy associated costs and outages. DR can be more cost-effective than adding generation capabilities to meet the peak or occasional demand spikes. The underlying objective for an effective wide implementation of DR is to actively engage users in modifying their consumption.
