The UK government's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 heavily relies on social landlords, who must improve the energy efficiency of their properties. About 40% of global carbon emissions are associated with buildings. To meet the target, social landlords in England must ensure all their properties are Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Band C or better by 2030.

However, a survey by Inside Housing reveals that 29% of providers doubt they can achieve this goal due to financial constraints and resident cooperation issues. Despite government funding initiatives like the £3.8bn Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, 43% of respondents want increased funding, highlighting uncertainties about technology investments.
