Switching to LED lighting is one of the most cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption

Switching all conventional lights to LED is one of the easiest, quickest and cost-effective way to reduce energy consumption.

Switching from conventional lights to LED alternatives can lead to a 50% or greater reduction in lighting-related energy consumption, and with smart lighting management, savings can reach up to 80% compared to traditional technology. In Europe, roughly half of all existing residential and commercial lighting is conventional, presenting a significant opportunity.

Replacing these lights with LEDs could annually save €65 billion in energy costs, cut CO2 emissions by 51 million tonnes, and free up energy equivalent to powering nearly 50 million heat pumps or charging 55 million electric vehicles. Even transitioning just Germany's street lights to LEDs could power 500,000 heat pumps.

EU directives, like the 2023 fluorescent ban and Energy Efficiency Directive revisions, are driving progress, aiming for a 11.7% energy consumption reduction by 2030, with lighting contributing significantly to this goal.
