Webinar: Innovating Energy Performance: A Deep Dive into the EPC RECAST Project

Editorial Team

On Tuesday, April 23, BUILD UP  hosted a webinar organised by organised by EPC RECAST on ‘Innovating Energy Performance: A Deep Dive into the EPC RECAST Project’. The webinar was structured into four sessions that delved into the role of the EPC Recast Project in contributing to sustainable and efficient buildings.

During the first session Dominique Caccavelli, Development Director at the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB) gave an introduction of the aim and main components of the EPC Project. As Caccavelli pointed out ‘EPC Recast is an innovative process and digital toolbox to develop and validate a new generation of EPCs for residential buildings’.

In the second session Olivier Greslou, Responsible of Research Strategies Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB), gave some insight on the project results. ‘Overall, the project is composed by three steps: data collection and inspection process, energy performance assessment and lastly a certification process and renovation roadmap’ explained Greslou.

Italian pilot cases

During the third session Graziano Salvalai, Associate Professor at Politecnico di Milano and Sara Momi, Business Developer at R2M Solution, shared some insight on the validation approach that was implemented in demo cases. ‘Pilots were used as live-demonstrator of the EPC Recast process: some pilots were used to test the long-term monitoring phase, some to test that the calculation tool implemented was up to standard, and others to evaluate the data-monitoring process’ Salvalai added. The result from the qualitative assessment show that ‘owners are curious and interested in further implications derived from a more digital advanced methodology to perform the EPC in building units’ Momi complimented.

The webinar ended with Andrei V. Litiu, Director at the EPB Center, who gave an overview of the EPBD Recast policy process and the status of its adoption and implementation process. Finally, a lively Q&A session has been conducted with the audience, who asked further inquiry on the opportunities to become an EPC assessor as well as countries for which the data model has been developed.
