Morbihan Habitat – Social housing district renovation with reused materials

The main objectives of this renovation was to obtain a Nearly Zero renovation label, reuse of demolition products and bio-sourced materials.
Editorial Team

Bretagne Sud Habitat successfully executed a substantial refurbishment in the Kerfréhour and Châtaigneraie districts. The project involved demolishing three buildings (100 dwellings) and renovating seven structures (140 dwellings) at an average cost of €60,000 per dwelling. The primary goal was achieving a Nearly Zero renovation label, demanding energy consumption below 80 kWhep/m²/year. This was surpassed with an impressive 52 kWhep/m²/year, indicating a 54% enhancement over existing structures.

Other objectives also encompassed tenant involvement, enhanced accessibility, recycling of demolition materials, and utilisation of bio-sourced materials. Despite a 14-month construction period and asbestos presence, the redevelopment concluded in September 2022, including a home for the elderly and a medical health center. Facades were thermally renovated with sustainable materials, and a pioneering re-use strategy recovered materials from demolished homes.
