How is European market for heat pumps performing?

Last year saw a 4.7% drop in heat pump sales. What does this slowdown cause to manufacturers?
Editorial Team

Heat pumps, pivotal for decarbonising buildings, faced a 4.7% sales decline in 2023 across 14 European countries, marking a reversal from a decade of growth. This setback, impacting nearly 3,000 jobs, stems from various factors including delayed EU initiatives, shifting policies, and high interest rates. While some nations saw growth, overall sales dropped, with quarterly declines prevalent.

Analysts project this trend to persist into 2024. The situation jeopardises climate goals, including renewable heating targets. To stabilise the market, EHPA advocates for policy guidance and addressing energy pricing differentials. Despite challenges, the total heat pump stock in the region stands at 23 million units.
