"Prefabrication is key to circular construction for several reasons. It is well known that prefabrication offers significant savings in costs of production of the component; time for the construction on-site and minimisation of the waste that it is produced both on manufacturing site and the construction site" (Maria Founti).

EXPERT TALKS series is an initiative from the BUILD UP portal. In the form of face-to-face interviews, experts from all around Europe and covering the field of Energy Efficiency in buildings from different perspectives share their views, experience and expertise with BUILD UP audience. The interviews address relevant topics linked to the Topic of the Month.

This month we will be discussing about "Circularity in material and construction processes" with Maria Founti, Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering at National Technical University of Athens.

During the interview, Founti answers questions about the importance of prefabrication for circular construction, the benefits of using circular prefabricated / modular construction or how is prefabrication improving material recycling and reuse.

Maria Founti is Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (Greece), and she leads the Laboratory of Heterogeneous Mixtures and Combustion Systems. Her research fields include several areas, such as energy efficiency, sustainability, powder technology or spray and combustion systems.

This video was recorded during Sustainable Places 2022, celebrated from 6th to 9th September in Nice (France).
