European heat pump market soars: paving the way to energy-efficient buildings

Rapid growth in heat pump adoption drives sustainability and decarbonisation
Editorial Team

The latest report "European Heat Pump Market and Statistics Report 2023" released by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), contains promising news for energy-efficient buildings.

The report reveals a 38.9% increase in European heat pump sales during 2022, setting a new sales record with 3.00 million units sold. This growth places the current European heat pump stock at around 19.79 million units, contributing significantly to sustainable heating solutions. With Europe's commitment to reducing energy consumption, heat pumps play a pivotal role in achieving this goal.

Despite this impressive growth, the report emphasises that the current rate of expansion is insufficient to fully decarbonise the heating and cooling sector by 2050. Actions to address this issue should be taken by governments and policymakers, to unlock the technology's potential for a greener future.
