Dr Jan Rosenow, Director of European programs at the global energy think tank, the Regulatory Assistance Project, believes that heat pump is the most energy efficient technology ever invented. He analyses how heat pumps are implemented, how they work and why they have seen a dramatic expansion in the European market. In particular, there has been a 40% expansion in the heat pump market in 2022 and a 30% expansion the year before. This has been driven by policies, but also pushed by a surge in the cost of gas due to the geopolitical context. Scandinavian countries have been the greatest uptake of heat pumps: "Finland have seen a reduction of 72% in carbon emissions from heating buildings over the last 30 years, more than 80% in Norway, and more than 90% in Sweden.”

Dr Jan Rosenow affirms also that electrifying with energy efficient appliances will drive the demand of energy down.
