Intermediate gas storage filling targets announced by the EU

These targets are the minimum thresholds that EU Member States need to meet to ensure security of supply with refilled storage facilities for winter 2023-2024.

The European Commission has announced intermediate gas storage filling targets for EU Member States in 2024 to achieve 90% gas storage by November 1, 2024, as per the EU Gas Storage Regulation. The targets for February, May, July, and September 2024 are set to ensure security of gas supply, facilitating refilled storage for the winter of 2023-2024. These targets, derived from Member States' input on past 5-year gas storage rates and the Commission's security assessment, aim to address unexpected demand spikes or supply disruptions. The Gas Storage Regulation, effective since June 2022, played a crucial role in achieving 100% EU-wide gas storage by November 2023.
