El Niu (the “Nest” in Catalan) is the first multi-residential Passivhaus Plus certified building.

The multi-residential Passivhaus Plus certified building is nestled up at 1275 metres above sea level and houses 11 housing units. The building is equipped with compact heat pump units, providing heat recovery ventilation, heating, cooling, and hot water generation. The façade consists of two different steel frame systems. A 37.7 kWp solar PV array is projected to generate 91% what the building consumes, turning it into a nearly net-zero energy powerhouse.

Exterior wall: Mineral wool insulation, U-value = 0.153 W/(m2K) 

Basement floor/floor slab: 150mm AK Kingspan PIR insulation
U-value = 0.134 W/(m2K)

Roof: 150mm Kingspan PIR-CM-BL insulation
100mm Mineral wool insulation
U-value = 0.098 W/(m2K)

Heating installation/domestic hot water: Compact heat pump unit per apartment

PHPP values
